Art Basics - (Foundation Studies)

For those who are true beginners and would like to be introduced to the fundamentals, This couse will start with an introduction to the use of simple materials and proceed with developing basic observation skills while learning rudimentary sketching techinques. This is an ideal prerequisite for those who are caught saying "I can't draw a straight line to save my soul". The principles learned in this course are designed to provide the student with all the skills necessary to enjoy creating basic drawings and sketches.

Drawing & Sketching Level 1
Learning to draw 3-D images within a few hours is not impossible, in fact, that is precisely what happens in this course. Students will be introduced to techniques that quickly develop drawing skills including the use of value scales, lines, shapes, structures, planes, texture, contour and basic linear (depth) perspective. A variety of materials will be suggested such as graphite pencil, contee, charcoal, ink, colour pencils and chalk pastels.

Drawing & Illustration - Level 2

This is a thorough study of more involved compositions emphasizing the use of values, shape, the colour wheel, positive and negative spaces, to formulate images utilizing a variety and combination of media such as pencil & ink, colour pencils & charcoal, etc. as well as Chalk pastels.

Colour & Composition
A more in-depth study of colour theory, colour manipulation, esthetics and even some reference to geometry, chemistry and physics will reveal certain concepts of harmony, balance and relationships as well as the Golden Section" divisions found in works of many of the great "Masters". Each session will have subject matter designed to get acquainted with specific concepts and techniques. Compositions can be completed with any media chosed by the student i.e. Pastels, Colour Pencils, Watercolour, Iols, Acrylics or Mixed Media.
